Who is the Gran Coronel?
Mezcal Gran Coronel 1884, is a tribute to one of the main protagonists in the history of Zacatecas named Ernesto García Castañeda born in Nieves, Zacatecas, Mexico, on February 26, 1884 and also occurred in the same place on January 28 of 1955, Municipality now called General Francisco R. Murguía; This character was a brave Mexican soldier and politician.
It is no coincidence that this mezcal bears the name of Gran Coronel 1884, since it has a fine lineage like a sword ready and willing that its descendants, upon recognizing the great men that this land has seen born, dedicated much of its life to great battles, being on the battlefield from 1910 to 1920; achieving a total of 38 battles.
It was in the year 1910 when the Mexican Revolution broke out and that is when Gran García enlisted to support the cause. Around 1913, he belonged to the First “Luis Moya” Regiment of the Natera Brigade of the Cavalry Weapon. In 1914 he obtained the rank of Colonel of the same Regiment, participating in the Taking of Zacatecas that began on June 23, 1914 alongside General Pánfilo Natera.
The Gran Coronel Ernesto García Castañeda not only was he a brave fighting man, but he was also an excellent politician, serving as President of some municipalities..
